Military members to participate in Rock 'n Sole "Shadow Run"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Approximately 150 deployed military members will participate in a shadow run of the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run on Saturday, June 15

The event, hosted by the Regional Support Command – Capital, 16th Sustainment Brigade based out of Bamberg, Germany, is one of ten official shadow runs that have been held since the groups arrival at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“These runs are great for soldier and section morale while participants are deployed,” said Major Eric R. Peterson, Regional Support Command – Capital, 16th Sustainment Brigade.  “Participating in shadow runs challenge the individuals no matter the distance and allows for them to participate in something that feels like home.”

Similar to the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run, participants in the shadow run come from all over the United States.  Other units that are involved have been deployed from Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana and many other states in the joint task forces.

To help bring the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run spirit to Afghanistan, participants received a care package from the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run and BMO Harris Bank, its presenting sponsor, that included a congratulatory banner signed by staff members of both organizations.

The third annual Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run presented by BMO Harris Bank will kick-off Saturday, June 15 at 7:00 am.  In 2012, the event sold-out with 7,400 registered runners.  Participants running in Milwaukee on June 15 will once again be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the downtown skyline, Lake Michigan and the Summerfest Grounds as they race over the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge, a Milwaukee landmark and throughout the course.

The Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run presented by BMO Harris Bank will kick-off and celebrate the weeks leading up to Summerfest 2013 which runs June 26 – 30 and July 2 – 7, 2013.  Summerfest will be closed Monday, July 1.
