Mexican Fiesta returns to Milwaukee for 53rd annual celebration
Mexican Fiesta kicked off its second day with music, food and high attendance. Attendees traveled from as far as Mexico for the 53rd annual event.
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee could not have asked for a better weekend for Mexican Fiesta.
"The music, the atmosphere. I just love everything about it, the people. It's always been a good time," said Lidia Lopez Perez.
Lopez Perez traveled from Indiana to Milwaukee to take part in the festivities for the 16th time.
"We were here yesterday, and we're here today and tomorrow. We always come out [for the] three days," Lopez Perez said.
Some music groups came from as far as Mexico, while others were local talents like Nueva Vizion.
"Happy, excited, grateful, nervous, you know all the emotions," said Cruz Esparza of Nueva Vizion.
The band was selected as part of a competition to take the stage at Mexican Fiesta.
That feeling is what organizers said makes this event so special.
"There's no one group that I would recommend, because there's really [something] for everyone, you're gonna find it," Tamara Olivas said.
Olivas is a part of the festival's board of directors. She says the details like the delicious bites and entertainment are what helped them break attendance records, bringing 100,000 guests for three years.
Organizers said the majority of the staff are volunteers who do it each year because they really love to be part of the magic behind it all.
