Medical Examiner issues report in death of 10-month-old boy

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its report on a 10-month-old baby boy found dead inside a home on S. 19th Street in Milwaukee on October 2nd.

The report says the baby was sleeping alone in an adult-sized bed while his mother was napping in a different bed and was later found unresponsive.

The report says the boy's six-year-old sister reported that the boy ate noodles with hot sauce and a roach, and then his lips turned blue.

According to the report, the baby's mother put the baby down for a nap on an adult-sized bed, and went to sleep in another room. When she awoke and checked on the baby, she found him unresponsive.

The baby's mother reported she didn't know anything about the baby eating noodles with hot sauce and a roach, but said she saw an open wrapper of Ramen noodles on the table in the kitchen, according to the report.

Three beds and a futon-style couch were found in the residence. No cribs or Pack 'n Plays were found.

The Medical Examiner was told the baby usually sleeps on a full-sized mattress on the floor with his siblings.

According to the report, the residence was extremely cluttered and dirty.

The Medical Examiner noted multiple unopened cans of strawberry margaritas in the kitchen.

The report indicates the baby lived at the residence with his mother and seven siblings. A 22-year-old sibling and the baby's mother were reportedly the childrens' primary caretakers.

“He don’t have asthma or anything. They told me he just stopped breathing. How did he stop breathing? I came home as fast as I can and the paramedics are already here and he was already in my mom’s hands. They said they tried CPR or the little thing they stick on his chest and he just he said there was nothing they could do. My little brother he never cried. He always had a smile on his face. He liked to play fight. He was just starting to walk,” Smith said.
