Mayor Tom Barrett is released from the hospital on Tuesday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was released from the hospital on Tuesday, December 10th -- after a two-night stay. Mayor Barrett spent some time at his City Hall office on Tuesday -- and tweeted the following:

Mayor Barrett was hospitalized Sunday, December 8th after participating in a 20-kilometer run at the Pettit Ice Center on his 60th birthday.

Mayor Barrett’s spokesman says the Mayor had planned to run 60 minutes on his birthday, but it snowed, so the Mayor headed over to the Pettit Center to run. The Pettit Center was closed to the public for the Badgerland Striders 20K run — and the Mayor decided to sign up.

He was treated for exhaustion following the race.

On Monday, Mayor Barrett underwent a series of tests at the Wheaton Franciscan Heart Hospital of Wisconsin. A statement from Mayor Barrett’s spokesman says nothing alarming was found — but doctors recommended Mayor Barrett stay one additional day at the hospital.
