Man gets 50 stitches after intruder stabs him inside home on Milwaukee's east side
MILWAUKEE -- Fighting for his life after being attacked with a knife, a Milwaukee man is stabbed after an intruder got into his east side home late Thursday night, July 20th. The victim's mother says she got a call early Friday morning, and the tears just started coming down her face. The victim's parents say they are just thankful their son is alive and was prepared to defend himself on a moment's notice.
With gashes in his head and neck, the 38-year-old stabbing victim walked straight into his home after being released from the hospital.
"He was pretty badly cut up on the order of 50 or 51 stitches," said George Ferriter, victim's father.

George Ferriter says just hours earlier, his daughter-in-law was asleep upstairs and his son relaxing on the couch downstairs in their Cass Street home, when the suspect entered.
"The assailant, as we understand, came in through the back door. The backyard was fenced so it's not surprising back door was not locked. It's a closed backyard so the assailant must have come in over the fence," said Ferriter.
Ferriter says his son was startled by the intrusion and knife-wielding man.
"The intruder picked up a weapon of opportunity in the kitchen, a meat cleaver or a large knife and attacked my son," Ferriter siad.
Ferriter believes his son's background enabled him to act and defend himself.
"He's done tours both in Afghanistan and later in Kurdistan, he is in the Wisconsin Air National Guard and Security Force so he's pretty well trained to deal with a variety of situations. Our understanding is he did defend his home and the attacker was driven off," said Ferriter.
"It makes me feel very scared to be honest with you," said a resident who lives nearby. "I keep my doors locked at all times."
This incident has raised alerts with nearby residents. They now take their own precautions while the victim recovers.
"I feel sorry for them. My sympathy for them," said a resident who lives nearby.
There were cameras outside of nearby businesses. We are not sure if the suspect was caught on surveillance when he fled. Police are investigating and as of now, they are still searching for the attacker.
