Man arrested for OWI after search utilizing K-9 officers, "thermal night vision" following crash

RACINE COUNTY -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office on Friday night, had to use K-9 officers and "thermal night vision" technology to locate a suspect arrested for OWI after a crash in the Town of Burlington.

Sheriff's officials say shortly before 8:00 p.m., a 911 call came in from a concerned citizen who reported a vehicle had passed him traveling at approximately 100 miles-per-hour, before crashing on State Highway 83 at Pine Street north of Schaal Road.

K-9 Nitro and K-9 Friday responded to the scene with their handlers to assist in a search for the suspect -- who exited his vehicle and fled on foot after the crash.

The K-9 officers and deputies using thermal night vision technology tracked the suspect for over a quarter-mile through fields and wooded areas.

The 23-year-old Kenosha man was eventually located and arrested. He was not seriously hurt in the crash.

He was arrested on charges of OWI -- second offense, no driver's license, drug-related charges, and a probation hold.
