Loved ones host bowling fundraiser in honor of teen killed in crash
RACINE (WITI) -- With each strike of a pin, loved ones remembered Casey Petricek's passion for bowling and zest for life. 16-year-old Petricek, a Westosha Central High School student was killed in a crash on Highway 142 in Kenosha County.
Kenosha County Sheriff's officials say speeding is what caused Petricek to veer into oncoming traffic.
Sheriff's officials say Petricek was driving on Highway 142 just after 3:00 on Friday afternoon, December 7th. After losing control and crashing into another car, Petricek was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital where she died on Saturday.
"She was very easy-going, kind-spirited, the kind of person that would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it," Petricek's father, Rhys Petricek said.
Petricek was an avid high school bowler, talented musician and honor student who had hopes of becoming a surgeon. Even in her death, Petricek still helped others -- donating her organs to those in need.
"She was a great person would always give back and had a big heart. She would always give back at a young age. That's why we're really doing this. Casey taught us to give back too," Glenn "Coach Red" Chapman who helped organize the fundraiser said.
As folks joyfully reminisced, Petricek's best friend, Bri Willis was thankful for the first annual benefit and believes the event can motivate others.
"Her spirit continues to live on. I believe that`s what`s important. It's been hard but she's given me the strength to continue moving on everyday to look at it as a gift," Willis said.
More than 150 showed up for the fundraiser. The goal was to raise about $6,000 for a scholarship.
