Lightning strike causes fire on Grand Ave. in Waukesha

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha fire officials say a lightning strike led to a fire just after 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 17th in the 1400 block of S. Grand Ave.

Officials say the first units on the scene reported smoke showing from a single-story, single-family wood frame structure. 

Fire was discovered in the basement with smoke extending to the first floor and attic. The crew was able to quickly extinguish the fire, and the smoke was ventilated from the house with the assistance of other fire crews on the scene. 

The fire investigation team responded to the scene and found the origin of the fire was at the circuit breaker box in the basement. 

It was determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike in the area that was witnessed by at least two other neighbors. 

Smoke and fire damage estimate was approximately $75,000.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries as a result of this fire.
