Kenosha neighborhood on edge after double-fatal shooting

KENOSHA (WITI) -- A double-fatal shooting has Kenosha residents and family members of the victims on edge. Police have no suspects in the shooting death of 20-year-old Zachary Hernandez and his cousin, 23-year-old Carlos Garcia.

"My mind is blank. I don't know what to say, but I feel empty," Lisa Contreras, the aunt of Hernandez told FOX6 News.

Emotionally spent, Contreras is wondering why her nephew, Hernandez was shot and killed outside of their home.

"I was inside and I heard four gun shots and that was it," Contreras said.

On Friday night, crime tape surrounded the perimeter near 25th Avenue and 51st Street in Kenosha -- as officers searched for clues.

Witnesses say the situation went from a heated argument to deadly gunshots in a matter of minutes.

"I was scared. It sounded like they were popping off right in my own backyard. Nothing like this has ever happened here before," a neighbor told FOX6 News.

The next day, family members gathered as a memorial stood on the porch just steps from where Hernandez lost his life.

Mark Hernandez is Zachary's uncle, and says while their hearts are heavy, they're also mourning the loss of their newphews best friend, Carlos Garcia, who was also shot and killed.

Garcia was on his way to the hospital when he died from gunshot wounds.

Both families are pleading with anyone who knows anyone -- to contact police immediately.
