Kenosha homeowner accused of growing marijuana
KENOSHA (WITI) -- Charges are being sought against a Kenosha homeowner who was allegedly growing marijuana in his backyard.
In a news release issued on Thursday, October 10th, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department indicates police responded to the 6100 block of Sheridan Rd. for a burglary in progress back on September 18th. While in the neighborhood, an officer "smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the air."
Once officers completed the burglary investigation, they located a large marijuana plant at a home in the neighborhood. Nobody was home at the time.
Detectives were able to identify the property owner who, according to the news release, "admitted ownership of the cultivated plants in his backyard. He gave permission to remove the remaining cannabis plants."
The Kenosha Drug Operations Group confiscated three large plants and nine smaller potted plants. The plants had an estimated street value of about $12,000.
