Kenosha County mobile home evacuation caused by rising waters

KENOSHA COUNTY (WITI) -- A mandatory evacuation was issued Thursday, April 18th at a mobile home park due to heavy rain and rising waters.

Some water reached levels high enough that people had to be rescued by boat. With more rain on the way, residents of Pleasant Prairie Mobile Home Court are worried.

Sharie Reetz has lived in the mobile home court for more than 10 years. She remembers the Kilbourne Road ditch topping its banks only two other times; once in 2008 and once in 1998.

"It was worse than it is now," she recalls. "Probably up to our hips."

Although the flood hasn't broken any records so far, it still forced five homes to be evacuated. The Red Cross set up a shelter in Paddock Lake and says they'll be ready if things in the area get worse.

"We're going to be here overnight. We're going to see how things go and if people need shelter they can certainly come by," notes Bill Simmons of the Red Cross.

With more rain in the forecast things could still get worse. The state is already preparing by announcing that Highway 50 near the Fox River will be closed the morning of Friday, April 19th until further notice.
