K-9 search of lockers done at Greendale High School Thursday

GREENDALE -- Police and K-9 Drug Detection Units from six local agencies conducted routine locker and parking lot searches at Greendale High School Thursday morning, May 17th.

According to an email alert that was sent out to parents of students, "The specially-trained K-9 Units identified one vehicle and two student lockers as POSSIBLE violations of our district policy forbidding illegal substances or other illegal items on campus. Follow-up investigations of those identified vehicles and lockers by our administration and staff found that we had two ACTUAL violations – one in a vehicle in our parking lot and one out of a student locker. For each student who was searched or interviewed stemming from today’s search, a parent or guardian was contacted per our usual procedures when engaging students in possible disciplinary situations that involve police contact."

GHS officials say this is a common practice used by area school districts and the seventh time they have done this at their high school over the last four years.

Officials say the searches reinforce the message that GHS and its students "deserve to be safe and that the use of or possession of illegal drugs will not be tolerated."
