"It's scary:" Riverwest neighborhood shaken up after man dies from gunshot wound outside of his home



MILWAUKEE -- A 33-year-old man, identified as Colin Demge, is shot to death in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood early Saturday morning, November 12th. The early morning murder is shaking up the neighborhood.

Police responded to the neighborhood near Weil and Meinecke just before 1:00 a.m.

"It's a bit shocking and nerving to be so close to the violence like that," said Kiefer Waterman, neighbor.

After gunfire erupted, chilling cries echoed.

"I heard someone yelling to call 911 so I did and I could hear some yelling after that," said Ryan Streilitzer, neighbor.

While Ryan Strelitzer called for help after hearing chaos in the alley. Other residents did what they could to help the 33-year-old man who was found outside of his home suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency responders arrived but despite life-saving efforts the man died on scene.

"It's scary," said Waterman.

Folks are rocked by the violent death.

"It makes you feel nervous about being around here," said Strelitzer.

With recent crimes in the area, the uncertainty of how and why it happened is troubling.

"There's been a lot of stuff going on. There's been hit-and-runs, my roommate got mugged at gunpoint two weeks ago. A lot of scary stuff is going on," said Strelitzer.

While condolences are being offered, hope for justice is also being felt as Milwaukee police continue to investigate.
