In trouble again: New charges filed against former Sheboygan Alderman Kevin Matichek
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- Already criminally charged in connection with the repeated sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy, former Sheboygan Alderman Kevin Matichek is now facing new charges.
He was once known best for his efforts to recall former Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan. Kevin Matichek's name remains on the ballot for the April 7th election, despite the fact that he no longer lives in his district. Instead, he's in the Sheboygan County Jail.

33-year-old Matichek faces five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of bribery by a public official -- charges filed in two separate cases.
After Matichek was charged with the repeated sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy in February, officials say other males came forward with similar allegations -- sexual acts that had allegedly occurred with Matichek when they were under the age of 18.
One of those males is now 19 years old. That individual told officials when he was 18, he applied for and received a bartender's license from the city of Sheboygan. About two months later, he received a phone call from Matichek, with whom he had previously had a sexual relationship. The boy told officials he had ended the relationship, but he was continually bothered by Matichek, whom he says would call him, wanting a "date."
The boy told officials during the phone call, Matichek identified himself as "Alderman Matichek" -- telling the boy he would have to appear before the Licensing Committee in order to keep his bartending license. Matichek allegedly told the boy if he would agree to go out on a "date" with Matichek (which the boy says he understood would include sex) they could "fix this."
The boy subsequently went on a date with Matichek at a Taco Bell restaurant, and the boy told officials the two later had sex. The boy told officials he "really" wanted to be a bartender, and he believed Matichek was bribing him to have sex.
The date happened between late August and mid-September 2013, according to the complaint.
The boy told officials he went before the Licensing Committee after the date and his bartending license was approved.
Investigators got ahold of the minutes from August-September meetings of Sheboygan's Committee on Law and Licensing, and those minutes show that on August 27th, 2013, the boy's bartending license was discussed among other licensing issues. Investigators learned that the committee apparently had some concerns regarding some initial approvals for licensing because of some inconsistent application problems -- but most of these were approved with a warning to update the applications. The boy's license was not approved with a warning.
These meeting minutes show that Alderman Matichek had voted to approve granting licenses with warnings to other bartender applicants, but not for the boy. That led to the boy's bartending license being denied, and Matichek then moved to call the boy before the committee, according to the complaint. Matichek's motion was approved.
Meeting minutes show that the boy appeared before the committee on September 10th, 2013 to explain the incomplete nature of his application. Alderman Matichek moved to approve the boy's license if he corrected his application, and that motion was passed unanimously. The complaint says this action could have been performed at the previous meeting, if it weren't for Matichek's "nay" vote.
The possession of child pornography charges filed against Matichek in a separate case came after a search warrant was executed on the home Matichek shares with his mother on N. 9th Street in Sheboygan.
A number of electronic devices were seized, including a cell phone taken from Matichek's bedroom. The SD card on that cell phone was examined, and a detective observed multiple images of an apparent teenage male. Many of the photos were not pornographic in nature, and several showed the teen and Matichek together. However, the complaint indicates some of the images were sexually explicit.
The male seen in the photos was identified as a man who is now 21 years old, but at the time the photos were taken, he was under 18.
In the case charging Matichek with the repeated sexual assault of a child, Matichek is set to appear in court on April 6th.
In the new cases filed against him, Matichek will be in court on April 15th.
Matichek resigned his post as a Sheboygan alderman in February.
