Hundreds attempt to set World Record for longest Soul Train

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Hundreds showed up to Potawatomi Bingo Casino on Thursday, February 21st to attempt to set a World Record for the longest Soul Train!

Hundreds dressed the part and brought themselves back to the 1970s -- a time when the iconic Soul Train was setting new trends and introducing new artists.

"I dig how everybody was into it. Everybody was into it. Everybody was having fun. That's the number one thing we wanted to do was have fun," one participant said.

Participants also used the event to mark Black History Month.

"That's cross-cultural, but has roots in the African-American community and we thought what better way then to do that and take that and celebrate the Soul Train line which is a part of our culture,"

Participants formed a line around the Civic Center and attempted to break the World Record set by Philadelphia of 291 people for the biggest Soul Train line.

Although the crowd at Potawatomi Bingo Casino did not break the World Record on Thursday, that didn't phase those who took a trip down memory lane.

"I love the 70s. I love the Soul Train. I love Don Cornelius. I love everything about it," one participant said.

"Soul Train brought culture for everybody, whatever skin color, whatever race, whatever gender, it brought soul and purpose and peace to everybody," one participant said.

Potawatomi estimates there were 160 people there attempting to break the World Record.
