How will you get to/from Summerfest? There are several options, and you should plan ahead

MILWAUKEE -- Summerfest 2016 begins on Wednesday, June 29th. Do you know how you'll get to and from the Summerfest grounds?

When it comes to Summerfest transportation -- the key is to plan ahead.

Getting to the Big Gig doesn't have to be a big headache -- even with construction.

"We offer three easy ways," Brendan Conway said.

Conway with the Milwaukee County Transit System says those options are fairly inexpensive.

"You can take a local route -- a regular bus that gets you within walking distance. You can take our downtown shuttle which runs along Wisconsin Avenue every 10 minutes or you can take one of our Freeway Flyers which go for one of 11 different Park and Ride locations across Milwaukee County and some of Ozaukee County," Conway said.

And new this year -- the pre-fare is all done right on your phone.

"We`re now on a digital ticket," Conway said.

If you'd like to drive yourself to Summerfest, there's an app for that too.

"You pretty much just compare prices on a map, pick a location that looks good to you and then you reserve it right from your phone," Suzannah Rubinstein with SpotHero said.

The app is called SpotHero, and can be downloaded for free on Apple or Android devices.

"We`ve got over 30 locations in Milwaukee. Its off street parking, so in lots and garages," Rubinstein said.

When it's time to leave Summerfest, planning ahead will once again help ensure you get home safely.

The MCTS Freeway Flyers run until 12:30 a.m. each night of Summerfest -- but Conway says if Summerfest runs late, so will those flyers.

Officials say no matter which mode of transportation you use, it`s a good idea to plan ahead and now is a good time to start since Summerfest starts on Wednesday.
