Heads up for drivers: Construction to begin on I-94 at WIS 20 in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is starting work on I-94 at WIS 20 in Racine County. The work is part of the WIS 20 Interchange Reconstruction Project that began in March of 2014. The 2015 schedule includes reconstruction of the I-94 East (southbound) mainline and bridge over WIS 20, along with entrance and exit ramps to-and-from I-94 East (southbound).

As of Thursday, March 12th, the outside lane of I-94 West (northbound) will be closed. The following week, a single lane of I-94 East (SB) will also close. Two lanes of traffic will remain in each direction during this time and throughout the project.

These lane closures are in preparation to switch southbound traffic onto the northbound side and to close the entrance-exit ramps to WIS 20.  This traffic switch and closure of the interstate ramps to-and-from WIS 20 will commence early Friday, March 20. There will be a signed and signaled detour for I-94 exit to WIS 20 and a signed detour for I-94 entrance ramp from WIS 20.

The contractor expects to complete the project late Fall 2015. All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change.
