Hartford police investigate attempted robbery at gas station

HARTFORD (WITI) -- Hartford police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a gas station in their community on Thursday, January 9th.

Officials say around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, a person armed with a knife walked into the Petro Quick Mart on Sumner St. The suspect brandished the weapon at the gas station attendant and demanded cash from the register. When the attendant refused to comply with the demands, the suspect fled without getting any money.

While checking the area for the suspect, officers noticed a male matching the suspect's description leaving the area in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to elude officers.

The suspect led officers on a brief, high-speed pursuit before crashing his vehicle into a guard rail on South St. in Hartford. The suspect then jumped out of the car and attempted to flee. Officers took the suspect into custody a short time later.

Charges of attempted armed robbery, recklessly endangering safety, eluding and resisting an officer are being referred to the Washington County District Attorney's Office against a 28-year-old Hartford man.
