MADISON -- A group trying to recall Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says it has enough signatures to force a recall election. The group's organizers say they've collected more than the 16,742 signatures needed. But they did not say exactly how many they have.
The Recall Fitzgerald Committee made the announcement on the signatures from the State Capitol Friday morning.
The Democratic Party considered the powerful majority leader of the State Senate too difficult to unseat. Instead, the party focused efforts on other recalls, hoping to change the partisanship of the Senate that way.
Fort Atkinson mother and wedding photographer Lori Compas organized the effort. She says she has no plans to run against Fitzgerald, and no one is aware of anyone else who will at this point.
