FULL CLOSURE coming up for US 41 in Washington County
WASHINGTON COUNTY (WITI) -- On the evening of Friday, September 5th, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will fully close a portion of US 41 in Washington County to install ten bridge girders as part of the US 41/WIS 144 improvement project. Five of the girders will be installed on the southbound side followed by five on the northbound side.
The full freeway closure is scheduled for 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (southbound) and midnight to 6 a.m. (northbound). On US 41 NB, the freeway will be closed at the US 41/US 45 split (eight miles south of the WIS 144 interchange). On US 41 SB, the freeway will be closed at WIS 33 (five miles north of the WIS 144 interchange).
In advance of the full closure, the WIS 33 SB on-ramp and County K SB on-ramp will be closed 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The WIS 145 NB on-ramp and WIS 60 NB on-ramp will be closed 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Beginning Friday, August 29th, posted signs will inform motorists of the pending closures.
Safety to the traveling public is of the utmost priority. The safest way to set the girders is to close the freeway completely. WisDOT has chosen an off-peak traffic time to minimize impacts to motorists who can utilize the following detour routes.
Northbound detour route:
Merge onto US 45 north to WIS 33, proceed west on WIS 33 to US 41 north.
Southbound detour route:
Exit at WIS 33 proceed east to US 45, proceed south on US 45 to US 41 south.
State Patrol will direct traffic at the off-ramps. Electronic signs will inform drivers of the closure and detour while route markers will be placed along the detour to assure motorists they are traveling the proper route.
All scheduled operations are weather dependant and subject to change. More information about the US 41/WIS 144 improvement project can be found at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/projects/seregion/144/index.htm.
