Flight to Miami diverted to Denver after report of smoke in cockpit

(CNN) -- An American Airlines plane was diverted to Denver International Airport on Friday because the crew reported smelling smoke in the cockpit, an airline spokeswoman told CNN.

Flight 1070, a Boeing 757 carrying 183 passengers, departed Seattle late Thursday for Miami, and the crew reported the smell of smoke in the cockpit, spokeswoman Dori Alvarez said.

The flight was diverted to Denver, where it landed safely at 3:53 a.m. (5:53 a.m. ET).

Maintenance crews checked the plane and found no issues with the aircraft, said Denver airport spokesman Heath Montgomery.
