Fitchburg police officer shot, injured man outside nightclub

TOWN OF MADISON (AP) -- Police in Dane County say officers have shot and injured a man who allegedly had been brandishing a gun and accosting people.

Fitchburg police Lt. Chad Brecklin says the man's injuries weren't life-threatening.

Brecklin says Fitchburg police were dispatched just after midnight Sunday, September 2nd to investigate reports of a man displaying a handgun and trying to rob people or enter occupied vehicles.

A short time later Madison police were dispatched to a nightclub on similar reports.

Brecklin says officers confronted the man outside, "and it ultimately turned into an officer-involved shooting.''

Police aren't aware of any other injuries from the incident.

The Fitchburg officer who fired has been placed on paid leave while the investigation takes place, which is standard protocol for such situations.
