Firefighters called out to fight fire in basement of home on S. 23rd Street

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee firefighters fought a challenging fire at a home on S. 23rd Street on Tuesday afternoon, March 17th.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. for a fire in the basement of the home. The fire spread to the home's first floor, and it was challenging for firefighters to fight due to clutter in the yard and the location of the fire in the basement.

Firefighters were eventually able to knock out some windows and make their way inside to put out the fire.

Those inside the home were able to make it out safely. No one was injured.

The home has suffered smoke and fire damage to the basement, and some smoke and fire damage to the home's first floor. A damage estimate hasn't yet been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
