Fire & Police Commission schedules disciplinary appeal hearing for Christopher Manney
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission has announced the Christopher Manney disciplinary appeal hearing has been scheduled to start on Thursday, March 19th.
Manney is the former Milwaukee police officer who shot and killed Dontre Hamilton at Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee in April 2014. Manney, who is white, said he acted in self-defense when he shot Hamilton 14 times. But Police Chief Edward Flynn fired Manney saying he ignored department policy and treated Hamilton, who is black, like a criminal by frisking him. Hamilton’s family has said Dontre suffered from schizophrenia.
The appeal hearing for Manney is now scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on March 19th and last until approximately 9 p.m. If needed, officials say the hearing will continue on Friday, March 20th and on again Saturday, March 21st.
The hearing will be conducted at the City of Milwaukee Municipal Court, Branch 1, located at 951 N. James Lovell Street in Milwaukee. The hearing is open to the public. But because there is limited seating in the courtroom, a live audiovisual feed will be streamed into the Municipal Court lobby.25.
