Fatal fire: Man pulled from smoke-filled house in Town of Ottawa
TOWN OF OTTAWA (WITI) -- Waukesha County officials say a man was pulled from a smoke-filled house early on Sunday, May 11th -- and later died. A second individual was injured.
First responders from North Prairie and Waukesha County were called to the home on Rue Parc in the Town of Ottawa just after midnight.
Deputies first to arrive on the scene were met outside by one of the two residents whom alerted the deputies that the other person was still inside the house. Two deputies made entry into the house and located the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
We're told the man who died was elderly. His name is not being released pending notification to family.
The other person from the home was taken to a hospital and is being treated for injuries from the fire.
The initial investigation indicates the fire started in a bedroom and remained contained in that area.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department -- but officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
The Village of North Prairie Fire Department responded to the scene -- and four neighboring departments were called in to assist.
There are no fire hydrants in the area, so tankers were needed to haul water to the scene.
In total, 12 fire trucks lined the street as crews battled this blaze.
Neighbors tell FOX6 News an elderly couple lived in the home for many years.
