"Everything is completely gone:" Fire destroys building near Appleton and Fiebrantz

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee firefighters battled a large blaze at a building near Appleton and Fiebrantz Tuesday evening, October 31st, which destroyed a building in the area.

Crews were called to the scene around 6:00 p.m.

"The fire was found to be well enveloped into the basement, up through the first floor," Deputy Terry Lintonen with the Milwaukee Fire Department said.

A FOX6 photojournalist on scene said around 7:15 p.m. the building was fully-engulfed.

Firefighters were forced from the building by falling debris.

"We withdrew our firefighters in an orderly manner from the building," Lintonen said.

The owner of Garden of Eden Kingdom Living, a health food store inside the building that caught fire, said "everything is completely gone."

"Somebody called me and was like, 'the building is smoking' and I was like 'what?' Right now, I’m just going to kind of breathe, take it all in and get somewhere quiet to find out what my next move is. If that’s gone, that means God has something for me," Karen Long said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
