Driver in ICU after car slams into school bus in Kenosha

KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of a car that slammed into the rear end of a school bus on Hwy. 45 in Kenosha County just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6th.

The school bus was dropping off a Westosha High School student at the time of the wreck. The bus driver and that one student were on board the bus -- but were not hurt.

The driver of the car was pinned beneath the back of the bus. The driver is said to have suffered significant head injuries and is in the ICU at Froedtert Hospital.

Flight for Life was dispatched to the scene -- to fly the driver to the hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows the school bus had activated the red stop lights in order to make a stop on Hwy. 45 The driver of the bus was about to activate the stop arm of the bus when the bus was rear ended by the car. It is unknown at this time what factors may have contributed to the car not stopping for the red lights of the school bus.
