GREENFIELD -- A 39-year-old Franklin man was arrested Thursday night, July 28th after he crashed his truck into a Greenfield home and fled the scene. It happened just before 9:30 p.m. at a home near Midland Drive and Crandon Place.

Amelia Stansbury and her fiance were almost home Thursday night, July 28th when they spotted a vehicle without headlights.
"We don't think anything of it. It was smashed up, without the headlights," said Amelia.
Shortly after that, a neighbor flagged them down and told them the house on the corner had been the victim of a hit-and-run -- the vehicle plowed into the home's kitchen before fleeing the scene.
"Says hey this is the description of the car that hit the house. We looked at each other, we're like we just saw that car, so we turned around and headed back up Oklahoma," said Amelia.

The pair went looking for the vehicle, and found it in the 3000 block of S. 49th Street. They immediately called police who arrested the man on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

"He was wearing shorts, he was shirtless, didn't have any shoes on. He looked like he was drunk, he sort of was like wobbling a bit," said Amelia.
Police say the man has two prior OWI convictions, and when asked why he drove into the house he said, "drank too much."
"He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, fortunately. And again we're very grateful for this, and too that nobody was hurt inside the residence," said Sergeant Matt Borchardt, Greenfield Police Department.

The crash did cause enough damage to make the home temporarily uninhabitable. Police weren't able to comment on how fast the driver was going or how much damage is caused, but thanks to Amelia, he didn't get away with it.
Police say he could spend some time behind bars.
"That tip helped us locate the vehicle and without it we may not have found it," said Borchardt.

FOX6 News spoke with the woman who lives in the home with her family. She says the family will have to live somewhere else for a while, while the damage to the home is repaired.
