MILWAUKEE -- They've been packed away for months, but soon enough, a coat will be a necessity before going outside.
"We want kids to have a new coat. In many cases, the people that we work with, a coat is a luxury. It`s a very expensive thing to have," said Salvation Army Major Dan Jennings.

In an effort to lend a hand to children living in poverty, we're asking for your help! DONATE to Condella's Coats for Kids!
"Every year, the need outstrips the number of coats. That`s why this year we`ve set a pretty aggressive goal to have over 10,000 coats," said Major Jennings.
We're asking for new or gently-used coats for children of all ages. They're distributed in mid-October.
"It`s absolutely beautiful to see a child receive a coat. They get to look through find the coat they like the best and put it on and they`re always so proud of their coat," said Major Jennings.
There are several drop off locations for the coats including the Salvation Army, Steinhafels, and Johnson Bank.
"It`s a daily check. The branches definitely compete against each other and they let each other know who's winning, who's losing, who's trailing," said Milwaukee Johnson Bank President Gus Hernandez.
But it's not just coats being collected.
"Anything that you think of as winter gear, so hats, and scarves, and mittens, and gloves," said Major Jennings.
Condella's Coats for Kids runs through October 11th. All sizes are welcome.
