DNR seeks volunteers for Earth Day projects

MADISON (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to help repair and enhance state properties as part of a three-day Earth Day celebration.

The agency needs people to work in state parks and forest and on state trails as part of its sixth annual Work-Play-Earth Day event. The outings are scheduled for April 19, April 26 and May 3. Tasks will include planting trees and shrubs, installing benches, removing invasive plants, painting picnic tables and other structures, raking and cleaning up litter.

After the work is completed volunteers can join DNR staff on hikes or take part in other recreational activities on the properties.

DNR officials say more than 700 volunteers participated in last year's event.
