Dish Network vs. antennas: A simple solution to access FOX6 on your television

MILWAUKEE -- Due to the dispute over retransmission rights, Dish Network customers are currently unable to watch programming on FOX6. That includes our newscasts, your favorite prime time shows and the Green Bay Packers. But for those viewers, and plenty of others, there's a simple solution.

Television antennas have come a long way from the "rabbit ears" versions we grew up with. With the evolution they're making a comeback in stores as well.

"It's actually starting to grow. A lot of people are wanting to cut the cord from

cable or Dish Network," said Best Buy General Manager Kevin Bendickson.

The modern, digital versions provide access to local channels in high definition, with no monthly subscription necessary. The antennas plug in to a separate input on your TV, and then you following a simple, time-time setup.

The antennas range in price from $20 to over $100. The higher the price, the better the strength and range of the signal, which stretches three towers throughout the Milwaukee area. You can get them at stores like Best Buy, and also online from a number of outlets.

"The stronger the antenna, the more signal you're going to be able to receive. So some of them are good up to 30 miles, some up to 60 miles or more," said Bendickson.

Antennas even pair well with an existing satellite provider, especially in bad weather.

"I currently use DirecTV in my home and I have an antenna in my home. Every once in a while if you do have bad weather, you might get an interruption in that signal and you still want to be able to access local news and see what's going on," said Bendickson.

If you're a Dish customer and don't want to buy an antenna, there are plenty of other providers that do carry FOX6 -- including DirecTV, AT&T U-Verse, Time Warner Cable and Charter Cable.
