Discovery World tees it up: New exhibit pays tribute to PGA
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's a sport with a long-standing history, that has seen many changes through the years.
"We`re able to showcase innovation in golf over almost the last 100 years, which is really an exciting thing for the casual golfer as well as somebody who is a really big fan," said Discovery World President and CEO Joel Brennan.
Discovery World is preparing to open its newest exhibit,"Innovations in Golf: The PGA Championship."
"The PGA Championship has been around for 97 years and we`ve got every winner of that PGA Championship featured in here plus something that they used during that so it might be a putter, it might be Tiger Woods` shoes," said Brennan.
The exhibit highlights how the game has changed through innovation and technology, while celebrating golf champions.
Some of those people include Gene Sarazen who won at Blue Mound Country Club in 1933 and Martin Kaymer who took home the top prize at Whistling Straits in 2010.
"The things that have a local connection here are some of the ones that are of the most interest to some of the people here," said Brennan.
This exhibit will also get people ready for The PGA Championship to head back to Wisconsin next year.
"We`ll be using this as a run-up and a prelude to the PGA Championship which will be held up at Whistling Straights again in August 2015," said Brennan.
Continuing a tradition and celebrating its legacy.
"Innovations in Golf: The PGA Champions" opens to the public on Thursday and runs through April 2015.
Discovery World officials also plan to add a golf simulator to the exhibit in the next few months.
