Convenience store busted for selling synthetic marijuana
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police busted a convenience store near Hampton and Hopkins after a clerk sold synthetic marijuana to an undercover officer.
According to a search warrant obtained by FOX6 News, Milwaukee police searched the FoodTown Mini Mart on Friday, January 4th. The search warrant shows they found several packages of "Scooby Snax" potpourri -- or synthetic marijuana.
Synthetic, or man-made marijuana products first came onto the market advertised as potpourri and sold legally -- until authorities caught on.
In Wisconsin, products like Mamba, Black Magic, Dragon and the widely known K-2 all became illegal to sell in 2011 -- a law some still apparently ignore.
According to a search warrant obtained by FOX6 News, Milwaukee police received a tip that FoodTown Mini Mart was selling a brand of synthetic marijuana, and sent in an undercover officer to investigate.
According to the search warrant, the officer approached the counter and asked for "Mike 'N Ikes," but it wasn't the chewy candy they were looking for. They were using the street term for "Scooby Snax" potpourri.
The search warrant indicates the clerk handed over a bag of the illegal potpourri. When police returned a few days later, the found nine more bags of the synthetic marijuana.
FOX6 News spoke with a man who identified himself as "Tony" -- the store's owner, who denied any of this took place, despite the information in the search warrant.
