WAUKESHA CO. -- Crews are set to begin construction this week on northbound I-43, between Highways 83 and 164 in Waukesha County. Work on the southbound lanes was completed last year.
Last resurfaced in the early 1990s, the pavement is in need of repair. This project will resurface the roadway, providing a better riding surface and also rehabilitate several bridges.
Construction on I-43 will be staged to keep most lanes open during peak drive times. However, lanes will be restricted during off-peak hours (southbound: 7 p.m. – 2 p.m., northbound: 9 a.m. – 5 a.m.) Periodic short-term ramp closures may be necessary to complete the work. At some point, traffic will be crossed over to the recently-completed southbound lanes to allow for 2 lanes of traffic in each direction.
The project is expected to be complete prior to Thanksgiving 2013.
The $13.4 million project is being paid for with a mix of federal and state funds.
