Citizen helps Milwaukee police identify, arrest two burglary suspects

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say information provided by an alert citizen allowed them to arrest two suspects wanted for a burglary on the city's northwest side.

Officers responded to the  neighborhood near 97th and Thurston around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20th for a report of a burglary. The officers talked to the victim, a 28-year-old Milwaukee woman, who said she returned home and found her house had been broken into. She told officers the suspects had stolen several electronic items.

Later that evening, officers responded to the neighborhood near 57th and Hampton for a report of suspicious activity. A neighbor reported several suspects were removing electronic items from a vehicle. When the officers arrived, the suspects fled and crashed the minivan into a tree.

Four suspects fled from the scene on foot and two of them, a 15-year-old male and a 27-year-old man, were taken into custody. Several of the stolen items that were stolen from N. 97th Street were found in the vehicle, which itself was stolen from the neighborhood near 61st and Carmen.

The 27-year-old suspect is a convicted felon with a criminal record dating back to 2006.

Officials say this case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
