Cedarburg man accused of producing child porn, faces federal charges

CEDARBURG (WITI) -- A Cedarburg man has been charged, accused of using technology to create child porn, including thousands of videos. He now faces a possible lifetime in prison for what state agents discovered on his computer.

David Weaver

Officials say David Weaver used Skype and a webcam. He is accused of conning kids into internet sex not only in Wisconsin, but around the world.

A federal prosecutor calls 50-year-old Weaver a danger to the community.

Weaver has been charged in federal court with five counts of producing child porn, duping children and teens around the world on internet chat rooms to perform sex acts on a webcam, with Weaver allegedly recording it.

The state Department of Justice says an analyst found more than 2,000 pornographic videos on Weaver's computer, with more than 100 child victims.

According to investigators, one search they found on Weaver's computer was called "Wisconsin Boy Scout Abuse List." Another online conversation led investigators to a victim in Jordan, and another in Maryland.

A criminal complaint accuses Weaver of downloading video of an anonymous girl, using a program called ManyCam to post it as a Skype video, and then texting children, pretending to be the girl.

Investigators say Weaver would encourage the children to invite siblings, and even family pets into the picture for sex.

Using another program, called SnagIt, Weaver allegedly would record and save the porn. To keep the online chat going, he would sometimes tell the victims he didn't have a microphone.

While investigators captured a lot of online chat, allegedly between Weaver and children, the prosecutor told the judge on Monday Weaver is not talking to court officials trying to do a background report on him.

This investigation has been going on for more than a year, after Weaver allegedly sent one of his pornographic images to someone in New York.

Federal officials there traced it back to Cedarburg, and the state Department of Justice agents discovered the rest.

Weaver remains in custody.
