Car slams into home on Milwaukee's north side

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating after a car left the roadway and struck a house in the 3700 block of N. 51st Boulevard on New Year's Eve.

Witnesses say the driver left the car after the crash, looked at the damage, and then drove away.

Kelle Williams spent New Year's Day making repairs to her home in the corner of 51st and Vienna after a driver struck her home around 5:00 a.m.

At the time, Williams' rushed to the living room couch where her eight-year-old nephew was sleeping. Damion Blair thought it was fireworks. Scared, he put his head under the covers before taking a peek at the mess around him.

"I looked up and it was a lot of dust coming my way, so I moved the dust out of my way and then I saw the window broke. Then I saw glass and bricks on the floor, and that's when my auntie came down," Blair said.

On Tuesday, the family cleaned up the mess and boarded up the busted front window -- as Milwaukee police looked for the driver.

Any individual who can drive into a house does not need to be on the roads," Williams said.

Although repairing her home will cost thousands, Williams said she is relieved property was the only loss.
