Candy Cane Lane, Country Christmas opening this weekend



With Thanksgiving now over, and people's stomachs likely still a little stuffed with dinner, and their shopping bags stuffed with <runtime:topic id="EVHST0000115">Black Friday</runtime:topic> deals, the focus is now <runtime:topic id="12014001">on Christmas</runtime:topic>. In the spirit of Christmas, both Candy Cane Lane, and the Country Christmas lights at Country Springs Hotel will open this weekend.

Candy Cane Lane in West Allis opens at 5:00 p.m. on Black Friday, and the area tradition is celebrating its 25th year. Organizers say over the past 25 years, over $1.5 million has been raised to fight childhood <runtime:topic id="HEDAI0000010">cancer</runtime:topic> through the MACC Fund. We're told this year, people living in the neighborhood near 92nd and Oklahoma are going bigger and brighter than ever. Every year, people in this neighborhood decorate their homes for Christmas.

Driving through and taking a look at the decorated homes is free, but donations are accepted to benefit the MACC Fund, and raise money for kids with <runtime:topic id="HEDAI0000010">cancer</runtime:topic>. The lights will be on until 10:00 p.m. through December 27th.

Another holiday event launching this weekend is also known as Wisconsin's largest drive-through Christmas lights display. Country Christmas at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee. Country Christmas is celebrating it's 16th anniversary this year. The lights display will be open through Sunday, November 27th, and will then reopen on December 1st and remain open daily through the end of December. The lights display is open from 5:00 to 10:00 Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, and from 5:00 to 9:00 Sunday through Thursday.

Some of the features of Country Christmas include a to-scale model railroad with seven model trains on three different levels, over one million holiday lights, Prairieville and Old Time Waukesha miniature cities, a 200-foot tunnel of 30,000 computerized lights, and Christmas Village, where guests can enjoy a hot cup of cocoa or a treat while checking out some animated holiday scenes.

Admission to Country Christmas is $15 per carload.
