BUSTED! Mom calls police on her own son, and he's arrested in connection with an armed robbery

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say a teenager is in custody in connection with an armed robbery -- busted by his own mother!

Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of W. Wright Street shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18th for a report of an armed robbery.

Police say the victims, a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman and her 62-year-old mother were walking, when two suspects approached them. One of the suspects had a gun, and both demanded valuables from the victims.

The suspects were able to obtain items, and they fled the scene on foot.

A short time later, the mother of one of the suspects called Milwaukee police and said her son had returned home with items she believed were stolen.

Officers located the 15-year-old suspect near N. 27th Street and W. Center Street and following a brief foot chase, took him into custody in the 2600 block of W. Fond du Lac Avenue.

Officers found items belonging to the victims on the suspect.

"It really solidifies the importance of how parents monitor their children and they make that call when they see something that appears to be out of line. Without the assistance of parents and family foundation, it would be very difficult for us to accomplish our task and keep people safe," Milwaukee Police Lt. Johnny Sgrignuoli said.

Police are still searching for the second suspect.
