Bomb Squad responds to Greenfield apartment complex

GREENFIELD (WITI) -- The Greenfield Police Department was called to an apartment complex on W. Howard Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26th after a suspicious item was found.

Upon arrival, officials located a piece of pipe that was capped on both ends. The pipe was discovered by apartment management when they were going through a unit after a tenant had moved out.

Authorities say there was no wick coming out of the pipe, however, as a precautionary measure, the Bomb Squad was called to the scene to remove and properly dispose of the pipe.

Some units in the building in which the pipe was found were evacuated as a precaution.

No additional details have been released at this time.
