BROOKFIELD -- The owner of Brookfield's Azana Salon & Spa released a statement Sunday evening, October 21st following a shooting at the salon early Sunday afternoon during which three were killed and four others were injured. The gunman, 45-year-old Radcliffe Haughton was found dead inside the salon late Sunday evening.
Officials spent much of the afternoon actively searching for the gunman. Brookfield Police Chief Dan Tushaus said an IED, or improvised explosive device was identified inside the Azana Salon & Spa — which hampered the clearing of the building.
Brookfield Police Chief Dan Tushaus said late Sunday evening the injured victims transported to Froedtert Hospital include a 22-year-old female, a 30-year-old female, a 32-year-old female and a 40-year-old female.
Three victims were found dead inside the Azana Salon & Spa building, along with Haughton.
Haughton is reportedly the estranged husband of one of the hair stylists at the spa. The Brookfield Patch reports an Azana employee who spoke to Patch said the woman’s estranged husband was out of work and his wife was working every day to bring in money to pay the bills. However, she recently decided to leave him, and that’s when the problems started. An Azana employee told the Patch the two have two daughters, ages 12 and 21.
In a statement released to FOX6 News Sunday night, Azana Salon & Spa owner Tami Gemmell said: "We appreciate all your calls and emails concerning today's shooting at Azana. We are devastated by this tragedy and remain in shock over how this could have happened. Please know that our first concern is for the victims and their families, and for our Azana family. We are grieving over the loss of our colleagues, their families and we are praying for those who are still fighting for their survival. We appreciate that you have many questions, and I will be available tomorrow to answer what I can, but tonight, we need to tend to each other. Thank you."
Police have said police social workers and mental health professionals are working with victims and their families.
A vigil was organized to pay tribute to the victims at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek Sunday night.
