Art Museum officials prepare to move art library, archives to Judge Jason Downer mansion

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the Milwaukee Art Museum announced Tuesday, August 2nd they'll move their art library and archives to the Judge Jason Downer mansion on Prospect Avenue.

Built in 1874, the three-story mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Art Museum's collection includes near 27,000 volumes, and 60,000 art catalogs, journals and magazines.

The Art Museum's library and archives closed in July in preparation for this move, and will reopen in spring of 2017 as the Milwaukee Art Museum Research Center.
