Arson suspected in 3-alarm fire, but why didn't anyone call 911?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee fire officials suspect arson is the cause of a three-alarm fire near 12th and Highland -- just north of the Marquette Interchange on Sunday afternoon, October 12th.

Three homes were fully engulfed -- flames and thick smoke clouded an otherwise clear sky on Sunday. Oddly, nobody in the neighborhood had bothered to call 911.

"We discovered this fire on the way to another fire," said Assistant Fire Chief Dan Lipski of the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Firefighters came across the fire just in time.

"I implore the public, if you see an emergency happening, please do not assume somebody else called," said Lipski.

Fire crews believe fires were set in two homes -- and that fire quickly spread to a third building.

Nobody was hurt -- and the fire was doused in about 30 minutes. Still, fire officials are left with this message for the public.

"Whether you`re on the freeway, whether you`re on the bus, whether you`re in your own car, please call 911 as appropriate. Don`t assume somebody else did it," said Lipski.
