All clear: Hotel guests evacuated after chlorine leak at Oak Creek hotel

OAK CREEK (WITI) --  A chlorine leak forced guests at the Comfort Suites hotel in Oak Creek to be evacuated on Thursday morning, March 12th.

Officials say around 7:20 a.m. a worker at the hotel went to the pool area to get the pool set up for the day. He smelled chlorine and noticed a vapor cloud coming from a storage area. After he opened the door to the area, he immediately called 911 and the fire department responded

The Oak Creek Fire Department and Milwaukee Hazardous Material Team were dispatched to the hotel. They isolated the issue -- and ventilated the pool area.

By late morning, the hotel had reopened for business.

The battalion chief on the scene indicated that chlorine fumes can be very dangerous. He said people can be overcome by the fumes very quickly. In this case, nobody was hurt as a result of the chlorine fumes.
