Aircraft suffering mechanical issues slides off runway at Crites Field, pilot uninjured

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha County Sheriff's officials say an aircraft had to return to Crites Field shortly after takeoff Monday, August 10th due to mechanical problems.

Officials were called out to Crites Field shortly before 7:00 p.m. -- for a report of an airplane that had slid off the runway.

It was determined that the aircraft had taken off from Crites Field, but had returned after experiencing mechanical problems.

The aircraft landed safely, but struck a landing light at the end of the runway. The aircraft came to a stop in the grass adjacent to the runway.

The aircraft suffered minor damage as a result.

The pilot -- a 57-year-old man was alone in the aircraft at the time of the incident and was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.
