MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police on Monday, May 26th announced the arrest of an 18-year-old man -- a convicted felon with a lengthy arrest record, in connection with the shooting of 10-year-old Sierra Guyton. Police have said Guyton was caught in the crossfire. She was shot while she was playing on a playground near 28th and Clarke last week.
Police on Monday said the 18-year-old shooting suspect was on probation at the time of the shooting involving Guyton on May 21st -- but that was incorrect. He had been on probation -- but his probation was revoked in 2013.
Police detailed the 18-year-old suspect's criminal history on Monday.
The 18-year-old man has been arrested 15 times by the Milwaukee Police Department during his young life.
Chief Flynn says days ago, the man was wounded in a gun battle with another person.
Early this year, the man was in a vehicle that was shot.
Chief Flynn says the man has been arrested for battery, robbery, vehicle theft, trespassing and burglary.
He is a convicted felon — at the age of 18.
"This is something I"m going to be looking at in this particular case as we work with judges, the D.A. and County Executive as we see what went wrong here. I want to see exactly what happened at every juncture. This started at 12, and this is where we ended up. Something went wrong here," Mayor Tom Barrett said.
