9 new cases of Legionnaires' confirmed in Milwaukee Co.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The City of Milwaukee Health Department has confirmed nine new cases of Legionnaires' Disease reported in November.

None of the cases have been linked to a specific geographic location or source of possible exposure. Five victims were hospitalized while two remain in the hospital.

"The total number of confirmed cases in Milwaukee County now stands at 74 since June 1st of this year. That's multi-fold greater than we typically see in any other year," said Paul Biedrzycki of the Milwaukee Health Department.

Officials say the vast majority of cases this year fit the risk profile by age and underlying health conditions.

Legionnaires' Disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by inhaling contaminated water vapor.
