35-year-old Illinois man arrested for fifth OWI after pursuit in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY -- A 35-year-old Illinois man was arrested for his fifth OWI offense following a pursuit that occurred on Monday night, June 15th.

Caledonia police were attempting to locate a driver involved in an earlier burglary and strangulation. An officer located the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

A short time later, a Wisconsin State Trooper located the vehicle and pursued the vehicle.

Officials say the vehicle traveled at high speeds and in a reckless manner southbound on I-94. The vehicle,
struck a semi unit and became disabled southbound at State Highway 20.

The driver then fled on foot, and the trooper gave chase on foot.

Officials say the driver wouldn't follow commands and a Taser had to be used on him.

He was then taken into custody.

An investigation revealed the driver had a revoked drivers license as well as two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and charges of OWI fifth offense, fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety, obstruction/resisting arrest, operating after revocation are being referred to the Racine District Attorneys Office.

The Caledonia Police Department is handling charges stemming from the strangulation and burglary incident.

No officers were injured during the incident.
