31-year-old man shot, killed during attempted robbery

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say a 31-year-old man was shot and killed inside a condo near 76th and Brown Deer Road early Sunday morning, October 14th.

Police say the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery around 1:00 a.m.

The area around the apartment building was taped off while police investigated the scene.

Neighbors say the community is safe, with no history of crime. Some said they were shocked to learn they may know the victim.

"It's really surprising and shocking to me -- especially if I know who the gentleman is, if he was indeed killed. A very nice gentleman," neighbor Linda Kreft said.

"Very surprising. Never nothing happens like that out here -- and I've been living here about eight years now," neighbor Richard Evans said.

FOX6 News has learned the victim was a young father, living with his fiance. The couple reportedly moved in to the neighborhood less than a year ago.

Detectives were in the neighborhood late Sunday morning -- searching the area for clues.

"It's a quiet and peaceful community out here. It is surprising something like this would happen out here," neighbor Richard Evans said.

The victim has not yet been formally identified by police. There is no word at this time whether there are any suspects in custody.
