29th annual Candy Cane Lane lights up for the 2014 season

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- Tonight is the night! It is the 29th annual opening of Candy Cane Lane in West Allis on Friday, November 28th. The event helps make a difference in the lives of children with cancer.

The West Allis neighborhood bounded by Oklahoma and Montana Avenues and 92nd and 96th Street is transformed into a winter wonderland to benefit the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc., or MACC.

For the 29th year, neighbors will join together to show the spirit of the holiday season. The holiday lights will be aglow from November 28th - December 26th and the hours are as follows:

Monday - Friday: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event is free, but visitors may leave a donation if they wish. The official collection site is at the corner of 95th and Manitoba.

Candy Cane Lane is MACC's most successful drives.

At the intersection of Kris and Kringle, is Ken and the cars.

Ken Perkl armed with only a bucket of candy, is trying to fight childhood cancer. Trying to raise $100,000 is hard to accomplish in one night.

Perkl will be out every day for a month, filling buckets to beat cancer.

Over the years this single fundraiser has raised nearly 1 and a half million dollars, which sounds like a lot but cancer research does not without.

"The only we are are going to find a cure is through research," said Colleen Moran, MACC fund.

And to light the way to volunteers like Ken Perkl, this neighborhood in West Allis, lights up their homes.
